Ashley Jones has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy in the category of Guest Performer. She reprised her role as Bridget last year for Eric’s health crisis tale on The Bold and the Beautiful. Jones chatted with Soap Hub to share through reaction to the nod.
“Brad Bell [executive producer/head writer] really gave me a lovely arc to play,” Jones tells Soap Hub. The show tasked Jones with taking Bridget from zero to 60 in terms of emotions after she realized what her father, Eric (John McCook), was facing.
“Bridget’s a very rich character,” Jones continues. “I put myself in her shoes — she thought she was coming home for a party or a fashion show and then found out her father was very sick. The thought of losing people becomes more real and palpable as you get older.”
Jones also credits her co-stars with helping her earn the nod especially TV mom Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke). “She is so easy to work with,” Jones raves. “[Kelly] wears her emotions on her sleeve in real life and on TV. She’s the most giving actress. She literally hands it to you. If you’re present with her, it all happens very naturally.”
The actress is quite familiar with her fellow nominees: Dick Van Dyke (Timothy Robicheaux, Days of our Lives), Linden Ashley (ex-Cameron, The Young and the Restless), Guy Pearce (Mike, Neighbours), and Alley Mills (Heather, General Hospital), who also plays B&B’s Pam. “I just spoke to Alley and she’s so adorable and lovely,” Jones says.
The actress’s reel is diverse in that we get to see Bridget as a grieving daughter, a supportive and assertive sister, and a dedicated doctor. “Bridget had to hide the emotions she was feeling so Eric wouldn’t know that he was ill,” Jones points out. “There’s conflict with Ridge [Thorsten Kaye], and Bridget assisted Finn [Tanner Novlan] with the procedure on Eric.”
As much as Jones is looking forward to the big night on June 7 when the 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards are broadcast on CBS at 8 p.m., she says that she’s enjoying being nominated right now.
“Casey [Kasprzyk, Supervising Producer] and Eva [Basler, VP Communications & Talent Relations] helped me with my reel,” Jones says. “They really helped make this happen. The fun part is right now when we are all winners.”
