On-screen, Liam has become a father not once but twice in recent years to daughters Kelly and Beth. He’s a three-time dad if you count taking on the role of surrogate dad to little Douglas. But in real-life, Liam’s portrayer, Scott Clifton, is taking a different approach when it comes to having more children.
Asked in a Q&A on Twitter if he is planning on having a second child (he and his wife, Nicole, have a son Ford, who recently turned 4-years-old), Clifton was honest in his response. In short, his own nuclear family won’t be expanding anytime soon.
The fan who posed the question added the caveat that it is indeed a personal inquiry. “Thank you for acknowledging that,” noted Scott Clifton, who then went on to say, “I think we’re done. I think we’re done. We love Ford, but parenting is really, really hard.”
The actor knows what it will be like to grow up as a sole offspring. “I was an only child. I grew up without a brother or sister. I recognize what a special relationship that is.”
Clifton’s not saying anything is etched in stone. “It would be really cool if Ford had a sibling, but I don’t think my wife and I are in a position to raise that person. At least, at this moment in time.”
While the actor was open in his response, it’s not like the subject hasn’t been given a good deal of thought. “It took us a while to make peace with that, but I think we’re done,” he shared.
It’s conceivable that Liam is also going to be a one-time dad, retroactively. Fans have speculated that his father Bill (Don Diamont) altered the DNA tests that revealed that Liam was the father of Steffy’s (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) daughter, hoping to get the couple to reunite. Stay tuned to see if the show ever goes down that path.
