The Bold and the Beautiful News Update: Karla Mosley Shares Teaching Moment With Daughter

“Baby A chose this book to flip through today,” Mosley shared on Instagram referring to a tome titled Josephine Baker: Image & Icon. “I had no hand in it – all her. I believe I took this book from my Aunt Bertha’s home. She was a librarian and gifted me many morsels of knowledge. I’ll likely get another resource when we really dive in.

“But today,” Mosley continued, “baby girl and I looked at this pioneer, revered for how ‘exotic’ she was. Celebrated for her curves and for being not too curvy all at once. She who fled the oppression of America for a different shade of oppression in Europe, but who claimed freedom through her art. She who proudly took in children, lovers of all kinds, flew planes, and died poor and sick on the street.

“Children can hold all of it,” the actress added. “They want to know and understand. I always loved listening to adults speak, tell their stories about childhood – even and sometimes especially the scary parts. Black folks, tell your stories. We are longing to hear them.”

Mosley joined BB in 2013 four years after her previous soap, Guiding Light, went off the air in 2009. After being on the show for a while, viewers learned that Maya was born Myron and went through procedures enabling her to live her true life — as Maya!

BB was created by the late William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell. It debuted on March 23, 1987. Today, Bradley Bell serves as the show’s executive producer and head writer.
