The Bold and the Beautiful News Update: Heather Tom On Her Historic Daytime Emmy Win

Heather Tom didn’t merely take home yet another Daytime Emmy when she won the statuette for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the 47th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards last week. The Bold and the Beautiful star has now tied with Erika Slezak (ex-Viki, One Life to Live) for most Daytime Emmy Awards won by an actress.

Heather Tom: All Those Emmys

Friday night’s win was Tom’s sixth. She earned her first Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series in 1993, taking home the award again in 1999, both for her role as Victoria on The Young and the Restless.

While nominated twice for playing Kelly on OLTL, it wasn’t until Tom joined the cast of BB that she took home her third statuette in 2011 in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress for her role as Katie Logan.

The following year, Heather Tom threw her hat in the ring for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. The Bold and the Beautiful star won the award that year and the following year, as well!

How did it feel to win this year? “I can’t quite wrap my head around it,” Tom told TV Insider. Adding to the surreal feeling of it all, Tom (and other nominees) taped their acceptance speeches in advance to allow for a smoother production as the awards show was virtual.

“I won’t lie. It was awful,” Tom added about having to act like she’d won when she didn’t know whether or not she had. “I totally understand why [the Daytime Emmy Awards producers] did it the way they did. I’m glad the show was aired [on broadcast TV] and they put it all together. I was willing to do whatever I needed to do. I’m not complaining, but it was surreal.”

Tom’s win ties her with Slezak, who won all six of her Daytime Emmys in the category of Outstanding Lead Actress for her role as Viki (and, on occasion, her alters!) “When I went [to OLTL], I was so excited at the possibility of working with [Erika],” Tom shared. “I’d already worked with super powerhouses Melody Thomas Scott [Nikki], Eric Braeden [Victor], and [the late] Jeanne Cooper [ex-Katherine] at YR. I couldn’t wait to be in a scene with Erika.”

Soap Hub congratulates Heather Tom on her historic win! The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
