The Bold and the Beautiful News Update: Heather Tom Hands Out Her Own Awards

She’s daytime TV’s most celebrated actress currently on the air, but Heather Tom, who just won her sixth Daytime Emmy acting award, feels she’s the one who is truly surrounded by talented folks on The Bold and the Beautiful.

Head writer/executive producer Brad Bell and his writing team took home the gold on Friday night for Outstanding Writing Team Drama Series. Annika Noelle (Hope) was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress and director Cindy Popp and other members of the show’s directing team were nominated for Outstanding Directing Team Drama Series.

“I’m thrilled for Brad,” Tom, who plays Katie Logan Spencer, told TV Insider. “I know that he and the writers might have gotten some blowback that the baby Beth story took so long [to resolve], but I saw that as a throwback to the way soaps used to tell stories. Annika and Scott [Clifton, Liam] got to live in that grief. I watched their scenes. I almost couldn’t watch them because they were so dark, but they were so real.

“I thought Annika and Scott did such beautiful work,” Tom continues. “I was really happy that they [showed the grief]. You can’t get over something like that and just be OK. Because they showed so much of it, the payoff was so great! We’re still dealing with the payoff. I think we will for years.”

Tom who has directed at BB gives mad props to the show’s directing team. “I’m so proud that [director/producer] Cindy Popp talked about the scene [where Hope ‘lost’ the baby] in the nomination package,” Tom notes. “She talked about the emotion of the scene, how important that was, and that the scene worked because the emotion was there.”

Tom is now tied with Erika Slezak (ex-Viki, One Life to Live) for having won the most Daytime Emmys for acting. The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
