The Bold and the Beautiful News: Denise Richards On Parenting Teens

Okay, maybe she hasn’t always been the best mom on The Bold and the Beautiful, but Denise Richards is aces in the mothering department in real-life.

The actress who plays Shauna Fulton, mother to the sometimes exasperated Flo (Katrina Bowden) on BB, and who appears as herself on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, is mother to teenage daughters Sam and Lola (whose dad is Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen) in real-life.

Richards says she believes in not being her kids’ pal, but their parent. Unlike some permissive mothers, Richards can be quite firm. “My parents were strict with me, so that’s how I was raised,” she said in a Soaps In Depth feature that originally appeared in the site’s companion magazine.

“So I’m about the same, I would have to say,” Richards adds. “However, I know it’s a different time now from when I was younger, which my daughters are constantly reminding me of.”

Being a teen has come with challenges since the dawn of time, but perhaps more so today Richards offers. “There’s a lot of pressure on kids growing up now,” she says. “I am just glad that social media wasn’t around when I was a teenager!”

Richards joined BB in 2019 as Shauna, Flo’s mom. At first, she was a “talk-to” character for both Flo and her longtime pal Quinn (Rena Sofer). Then, the BB writers tested Shauna’s chemistry with Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) and things took off!

Ridge and Shauna have exchanged many intimate moments and a kiss here and there — and perhaps something more. The two took a trip to Las Vegas as viewers from last spring recall. What happened there?
