The Bold and the Beautiful is taking extensive precautions in order to stymie potential outbreaks of coronavirus, so after a staffer at the half-hour soap opera tested positive for COVID-19, the show took a two-week break.
The good news is – according to Deadline – BB is back in production, following that brief shutdown. The staffer in question tested positive for coronavirus three and a half weeks ago. To be safe, the show moved a pre-planned dark week and added a second dark week. Usually, BB takes one week off a month for budgetary reasons.
This recent development will not affect the show’s air schedule, so expect the on-screen drama to continue. However, it is only one in a growing number of similar situations: Earlier this week, three workers at Television City – home to both BB and The Young and the Restless – tested positive for COVID-19. This was reported to the L.A. County Department of Public Health.
Television City owner Hackman Capital Partners confirmed the three positive COVID-19 cases. “The three employees are CBS corporate employees who are separated from, and not tied to, any production,” TV City owner Hackman Capital Partners confirmed to Deadline in a statement. “No productions have been shut down in connection with this isolated incident.”
While BB has taken another brief hiatus in response to its own positive test for the virus, YR and The Late, Late Show with James Corden have not been impacted. BB was created by the late William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell. The show debuted on March 23, 1987. The families shown in the premiere episode — the Forresters, the Spencers, and the Logans — are still in the forefront on BB today.
Two of the show’s original cast members, John McCook (Eric) and Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke), remain today. The show’s latest hire is Tanner Novlan (Dr. John “Finn” Finnegan). Bradley Bell serves as the show’s executive producer and head writer. The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
