Taylor Hayes – she’s The Bold and the Beautiful’s perennial loser in love who always came in second best where Brooke Logan was concerned.
Taylor is the only daughter of Jack Hamilton and Sharon Ashford and the sister of Zachary Hamilton. In her youth, Taylor married and divorced Blake Hayes, a man prone to violent outbursts and obsessive behavior.
Upon attending both Stanford Medical and Northwestern University, Taylor obtained her medical license and specialized in both oncology and psychiatry.
California Dreaming
In 1990, Taylor diagnosed Caroline Spencer Forrester as suffering from end-stage leukemia and then used her skills as a counselor to help her and Ridge deal with the realization that they would soon be parted by death.
Upon Caroline’s passing – and in recognition of the fact that Brooke was wed to his father – Ridge began to court Taylor. Their early romance was stymied by Taylor’s ex who stooped to stalking, blackmail, and violence to try to get her back.
But even after Blake decamped for Texas, the relationship faced a plethora of hurdles. Brooke constantly interfered in their lives and she even managed to sleep with Ridge. A resulting pregnancy seemed to indicate that Ridge was about to become a father but a tampered-with paternity test named Eric as the biological papa.
Mrs. Ridge Forrester
Despite the obstacles and her myriad of misgivings, Taylor couldn’t help but accept the proposal that Ridge issued while they vacationed – and scavenger hunted – in Saint Thomas.
Their wedding was a lavish, emotional affair but in its aftermath, Taylor still had to contend with Brooke’s constant interfering presence. In her frustration, she grew extremely close to fellow psychiatrist James Warwick, who asked that she see him on a client/patient basis.
When the two became trapped in an earthquake-damaged cabin, Taylor agreed to what she assumed would be James’s dying wish: take his virginity! They were eventually rescued, and Brooke became determined to prove that something untoward occurred during their time together.
Triangle Blues
However, her mission became moot when Taylor was presumed dead in an airplane crash. While Brooke and Ridge responded to the news by marrying, Taylor awoke inside a Moroccan palace without a single memory.
She was presented with the name Laila and found herself the intended bride of her rescuer, Prince Omar. When her amnesia cleared and she received word that father had suffered a serious heart attack, Taylor returned to Los Angeles.
There, she revealed herself to Jack and later operated under the guise of a British nurse in order to care for an ailing – and blind – Ridge. When he eventually recovered, Ridge waffled between Taylor and Brooke before ultimately deciding that his heart belonged to the latter.
Unluckily, his decision had not been made prior to his impregnating Taylor so she allowed Thorne to claim responsibility, though the truth was eventually outed and she and Ridge reunited.
Expanding Families and Trouble Aplenty
Over the next few years, Taylor and Ridge welcomed not only Thomas Hamilton but also twin daughters – Steffy and Phoebe. And despite their weathering Ridge’s accidental infidelity with Morgan DeWitt, an obsessed ex-paramour who would later abduct Steffy, the couple were torn asunder when Taylor was the presumed victim of a gun-wielding Shelia Carter.
But the rumors of her death were greatly exaggerated – much like they had been nearly a decade previous. Rather than dying from her bullet wound, Taylor had instead been abducted by a still-enraptured Prince Omar.
Taylor Hayes – Marry Go Round
Her inevitable return once again resulted in Ridge having to choose between the two loves of his life. When it became apparent that he intended to choose Brooke, his mother faked a heart attack and begged him to return to Taylor.
He did so but their marriage suffered due to Taylor’s interest in Hector Ramirez and confession to having slept with James all those years ago. In the aftermath of her divorce, Taylor descended into alcoholism and her decision to drive while intoxicated resulted in Darla Forrester’s death.
After managing to avoid prison, she dated Darla’s widower, Thorne, before exchanging vows with both Nick Marone and Whipple Jones. The former marriage was destroyed once it emerged that the baby Taylor carried, thanks to in vitro fertilization, was biologically Brooke’s and the latter ended due to her lingering obsession with Ridge.
In the ensuing years, Taylor gained a degree of power by purchasing stock in Forrester Creations and then allowing Steffy to use them to her benefit. However, her mental condition deteriorated to the point that she shot and severely wounded Bill Spencer!
She also found herself accidentally involved in a scheme that saw Hope Logan having her baby taken from her and sold to Steffy on the assumption that it was a child in need. The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings of airtimes.
