The Bold and the Beautiful Character Recap: Maya Avant

Maya Avant – she burst onto the canvas with a chip on her shoulder and one heck of a secret. Years later, she emerged as a firm fan favorite.

Who Is Maya Avant?

Born Myron Avant, Maya escaped her suffocating life in Evanston, Illinois for Los Angles where she began her transition into her true self – despite the venomous objections of her parents, Julius and Vivienne.

The aspiring actress/singer found a confidant in do-gooder Dayzee Leigh and a lover in bad boy Jesse Graves. When Jesse was arrested and eventually sent to prison, he requested that Maya become the guardian to his infant daughter.

When Maya was incarcerated herself (for a crime she maintains she was innocent of), she requested that Daisy place the child with a good family. After her release, Maya was determined to reclaim the babe only to learn that she and her adoptive parents had died in a car accident.

Love – It’s Complicated
After obtaining a job at Dayzee’s coffee house and accommodations in the building’s upstairs apartment, Maya made the acquaintance of Rick Forrester, whom she mistook for a fellow member of the waitstaff.

The two briefly dated, but when Maya learned Rick’s true identity she put a halt to the budding romance. Feeling unworthy of such a wealthy, put-together man, Maya instead turned to lawyer Carter Walton.

However, it was obvious to Carter that Maya was still pining for Rick and he ended things. Maya ultimately pursued Rick, but she had to contend with the machinations of his ex, Caroline Spencer, and her devious uncle Bill.

The scheme team eventually succeeded in busting Rick and Maya up and when the former married Caroline, the latter accepted a proposal of marriage from a still-besotted Carter.

The Truth Will Out
Both parties eventually realized their mistakes and reunited, though Rick’s decision was made all the easier by Maya’s outing of Caroline and Ridge’s affair. But further trouble arrived in the form of Maya’s younger sister, Nicole.

Concerned that her status as a transgender person would be outed, Maya took the initiative and told Rick all. Contrary to her fears, Rick accepted her truth and then proposed. A ceremony followed though it was marred by a rant issued by Maya’s bigoted father.

Afterward, Maya and Rick asked Nicole if she would consider being their surrogate. The young girl agreed and the newlyweds eventually welcomed Elizabeth “Lizzy” Nicole.

In 2018, Maya and Ric decamped to Paris where they were to oversee Forrester International. During their time abroad, the idea of marriage and partnership apparently lost its luster as Maya would briefly return to L.A. and announce that she and Rick were divorcing.

Since that time, nothing more has been mentioned on-screen so the possibility of reconciliation still exits. The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
