Long considered the ‘new kid on the block,’ The Bold and the Beautiful is — and has been for some time now — a daytime staple, having taken its rightful place among other veteran serials. Now, the half-hour sudser is celebrating something special.
The Bold and the Beautiful Celebrates
BB turned 33 on March 23 this week, having debuted on Monday, March 23, 1987. Bradley Bell serves as the show’s executive producer and head writer. Here are some fun facts from the show’s premiere week that you may not know and that veteran viewers will always remember.
Always In Fashion
In BB’s premiere, Forrester Creations was holding a fashion show. Eric (John McCook), Ridge (then, Ronn Moss; now, Thorsten Kaye), Thorne (Clayton Norcross), and Margo (Lauren Koslow; now Kate, Days of our Lives) successfully executed another extravaganza!
Also, Ridge proposed to Caroline Spencer (Joanna Johnson) – but was it because he truly loved her or was he trying to play mind games with her overprotective father, Bill (James Storm)?
Logan’s Run
We knew Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) was a fighter from her first appearance. She fought off a mystery man who was trying to drag her into a van. Brooke worked with her then-beau Dave (Stephen Shortridge) to identify her attackers!
Hello, Stephanie
In BB’s second episode, viewers were introduced to the fabulous Forrester mansion that’s still the hub of much of the action today. Eric returned home from the fashion presentation which his wife Stephanie (Susan Flannery) did not attend, but she still had the scoop on the gala thanks to some magazine editors phoning her. Eric and Steph squabbled about the state of their marriage.
And The Rest
Viewers met BB’s other characters including Logan matriarch Beth (Judith Baldwin; later, Nancy Burnett,) and her firstborn Storm (Ethan Wayne). On this special anniversary, McCook took to twitter to acknowledge the show’s accomplishment.
“It’s sobering time in the USA today, but in spite of that, we take great pride and happiness to celebrate (even without a gleeful get-together) our B&B 33rd birthday today!!” the actor posted. “Our success as a show is your success as our fabulous fan base…So grateful to you all!!” The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS.
