Heather Tom has landed a great new gig at CBS, but will the move take her away from The Bold and the Beautiful where she plays Katie?
CBS has announced that Tom is one of the participants in its 2018-19 Directors Initiative, which provides a platform for experienced directors to gain access to powerful people in showbiz.
Tom, along with other directors, will have the opportunity to “shadow” (follow along at work) CBS shows throughout the year.
“This initiative is all about access to decision makers who can ultimately provide opportunities to advance our participants’ careers,” said Tiffany Smith-Anoa’i, Executive Vice President, Entertainment Diversity, Inclusion and Communications, CBS Entertainment.
Tom, as B&B fans know, has been directing on and off at the half-hour soap for years.
The good news is, Soap Hub hears, Tom’s participation in the initiative isn’t going to affect her screen time at B&B. She’ll partake in the directing program during B&B’s dark weeks and other times when she’s not busy as the youngest Logan sibling.
Tom first came to the attention of soap fans for her Emmy-winning run as Victoria Newman on The Young and the Restless in 1990. She left Y&R twice, the first in 1997, returning to Genoa City later that year.
She exited the show again in 2003 and took on the role of Kelly on One Life to Live, receiving an Emmy nod for her work in Llanview.
The talented actress took over the part of Katie on B&B in 2007. Along with winning two Emmys for Victoria on Y&R, Tom has earned three more for playing Katie, making her one of daytime’s most lauded actresses.
In addition to directing at B&B, Tom has also directed the short films Blink and Serenity.
The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
