Soap Star Ashley Jones Reveals A Deep Personal Tragedy

Sadly, life and art imitate each other in the lives of soap stars. Ashley Jones, who recurs as Bridget on The Bold and the Beautiful, and is also known to soap fans as Parker on General Hospital, recently opened up about a personal ordeal she endured last year.

A Sad Year For Ashley Jones

Jones shared her official blog that a year ago, she suffered a miscarriage. “Truth be told, I’ve miscarried twice,” the Emmy-nominated actress revealed. “That second time, I was further along. A little over nine weeks. We had tried IUI, but this time we were pregnant naturally! I thought it was a sign.”

Jones, who made her daytime debut as Megan on The Young and the Restless over 20 years ago, went in for a follow-up appointment alone to make sure the heartbeat was strong and to have blood work done that would determine the gender.

“I felt so deeply it was a little girl. She would be named after my Great Grandmother, also started with an ‘H,’ like [my stepson] Huck and [and son] Hayden. I had already told my parents. I had Hayden wear a shirt that said ‘big brother’ when I took him to visit them in Texas.”

On-screen BB’s Bridget suffered two miscarriages when she lost babies fathered by both Dante (Antonio Sabato Jr.) and Nick (Jack Wagner), but those on-screen experiences could not prepare her for real-life.

Tragically, Jones noticed her doctor being silent during the exam, causing her to ask if everything was all right. “If I had been standing, I would have fainted,” she recalls. “I felt like I went limp on the table anyway. Dear God, it’s ok, it’s ok, right?? I could hear myself pleading in my mind.”

Jones then heard the words that she says 1 in 4 women hear: “There is no heartbeat.” The actress had to have a D&C (dilation and curettage), which according to the Mayo Clinic is: “…a surgical procedure…to remove abnormal tissues.”

The actress dealt with another big life change later in the year after filing for divorce from her husband.

“The definition of my family is different right now,” Jones added in her blog. “I feel broken open. I have faith things happen the way they are meant to, I do. I’ve discussed secondary infertility, vitamins and supplements I was taking (and still am!). As this topic of conversation has come up, what heals me is to help someone else. I hope I can.”
