She never appeared on The Bold and the Beautiful, but Jacob Young (ex-Rick) had late singer Mary Wilson (The Supremes) on his podcast show not that long ago. Now, he’s paying tribute to Wilson, who died suddenly at her home in Las Vegas on February 8.
“I’m absolutely devastated and heartbroken to hear about the passing of the great Mary Wilson,” Young posted on his Instagram account. “You and Florence [Ballard, Wilson’s late fellow Supreme, who died in 1976] are together again and can sing to all the angels in heaven.
“It was just a couple of weeks ago I had you on my podcast, I’m so grateful for the time you spent with me discussing mental health,” Young adds. “Your continued passion for helping children and fighting for education was second to none. If only we could all live in that mindset. I never thought this video would be the last time to say goodbye. RIP Queen. Listen to all of Mary’s inspirational words.”
Young had Wilson on his podcast in early January. He talked to her about her early life, growing up in Detroit, and how she began her singing career. Wilson playfully joked that she was going to have to send the actor/host copies of her memoirs (Dreamgirl: My Life as a Supreme; Supreme Faith: Someday We’ll Be Together).
“I was extremely shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of a major member of the Motown family, Mary Wilson of the Supremes,” announced Berry Gordy, founder of Motown, in a statement Monday night. “The Supremes were always known as the ‘sweethearts of Motown.'” Check out Young’s tribute post to Wilson below.
