It’s been less than two months since Liam hit poor dead Vinny with his car on The Bold and the Beautiful, but Liam must feel like it’s been forever since he’s been in agony ever since that fateful night. We knew Liam, honest to a fault perhaps, would eventually crack and now he has. Not only has Liam unburdened his soul, but his portrayer, Scott Clifton, has earned Performer of the Week honors for BB in the process.
Clifton has always brought a sincere and earnest quality to his character. It’s against Liam’s nature to withhold the truth. Liam’s never set out to hurt anyone and is even a vegan, in part, because he doesn’t want to harm any animals. After much consternation, Liam made up his mind to confess all to his wife Hope (Annika Noelle) and brought the appropriate intensity to his performance as he recalled the night Vinny died.
In fact, it felt as if Liam was going to literally snap in half. This caused Hope to feel scared and confused by her husband’s mood. Liam felt he needed to relay the information piece by piece so that she would understand the whole scenario. At first, Hope surmised that Liam was still beating himself up about his one-night stand with Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), but he assured her it was something else entirely.
Liam solemnly said that it’s quite possible someone will come along and take him away from Hope and their kids Beth and Douglas (Henry Joseph Samiri) forever. Perhaps that’s extreme given that Liam didn’t set out to take Vinny’s life, but it’s certainly how he feels.
Liam prefaced what he’d done by first telling Hope that he didn’t mean to do it. He was torn between not wanting to lose Hope and her love, and not wanting to involve her in this ordeal on any emotional or even legal level. After Hope reminded Liam that she had his support, he finally was able to unload.
Liam brought Hope back to the night that he drove his father Bill (Don Diamont) home because he’d had too much to drink. He said it all happened so fast he didn’t have time to react, but that he’d seen his face and the blood. Liam said he was responsible. For what, Hope asked? “For Vinny,” Liam said. “I hit him with the car. I’m the one who killed him.”
Time will tell what really may have happened the night Vinny died. (What was he doing out on that darkened road alone?) One thing we do know is that Clifton is “guilty” of delivering unforgettable performances! The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
