Liam Spencer made the faux pas of the century on The Bold and the Beautiful when he slept with ex-wife Steffy after assuming his current wife Hope had been unfaithful (she was not). However, the guy is doing his level best to profusely apologize while also trying to keep his life together.
Scott Clifton — Performer of the Week
In short, Scott Clifton’s Liam is an emotional wreck. For his performance as a tortured man who’s beating himself up, Soap Hub bestows Performer of the Week honors on Scott Clifton.
Even though it was, on some level, understandable that Liam mistook the Hope mannequin for his wife — the lights were out and the resemblance was uncanny — there’s really no reason he should have wound up in Steffy’s (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) bed, especially since he didn’t even confront his wife about her “betrayal.”
Liam’s emotional plea to Hope (Annika Noelle) made it clear to her that he knows he screwed up, that it was unintentional, and he doesn’t want to lose her. Hope couldn’t help but be affected by her husband’s heartfelt honesty.
Later, Liam was able to confide in his brother Wyatt (Darin Brooks), a man who knows all the dynamics, having competed against his brother for Steffy’s love in the past. Incredulous, but not judgmental, Wyatt offered Liam both a figurative and a literal space where he could unload all his frustration, regret, and angst.
A bit of levity, which can occur in dramatic stories, occurred when a stunned Wyatt pointed out that his health-conscious brother was chowing down on a sandwich with meat — AND cheese! A stress-eating Liam was in no laughing mood, but he realized he could let his guard down a bit and confide in Wyatt. The drama was still there in Liam’s scenes with his brother, but Clifton was able to play more of the absurdity of his whole situation as opposed to the heavy heartfelt angst he’d played earlier with Hope.
Time will tell if Liam is the father of Steffy’s baby. The good news is that Clifton has excelled in his scenes as a dad (remember his reaction to finding out that Phoebe was really Beth?). And if Liam’s not the dad, it’s good news for him and Hope. Either way, we can count on Clifton to continue to be honest and present as he continues to bring Liam to life. The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for airtimes.
