Poor Vinny. Sure, you made some mistakes in life on The Bold and Beautiful, but nobody deserves to die on the side of the road after being hit by a car. Fortunately, we haven’t seen the last of his portrayer, Joe LoCicero.
That’s because, in soaps, death doesn’t always mean a final farewell. Thanks to Liam’s (Scott Clifton) guilty conscience, LoCicero got to flex his acting muscles by playing a figment of Liam’s dark imagination.
For his commanding and threatening performance as “nightmare Vinny,” Soap Hub bestows Performer of the Week honors for BB on Vinny’s portrayer Joe LoCicero.
Previously, LoCicero got to play Vinny’s corpse; while lying motionless sounds easy, the actor had to tune out everything around him, remain totally still, and listen while those around him reported and lamented his loss.
Liam is so darn honorable that he can’t help but think of the dead lab tech who decided to monkey around with Steffy’s (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) baby’s paternity test. In order to process his guilt, while trying to get some peaceful sleep, Liam conjured up an image of Vinny so he could explain to the dead man that he didn’t mean to kill him.
“You left me to die!” a shrouded Vinny accused Liam, his presence more commanding than ever. “You left me on the side of the road, bleeding, dying!! You didn’t care. You just drove away!”
Already an imposing figure, Vinny, dressed all in black, his voice slightly echoing, warned Liam that he was “going to pay!”
The script called for Liam to be shaking in fear after his encounter with ghost Vinny, so LoCicero needed to step up and truly make Liam feel as bad as possible. LoCicero delivered energy, passion, and vitriol to drive that point home.
In the past, Vinny played the role of Thomas’s (Matthew Atkinson) “talk to” and at times, he was Douglas’s (Henry Joseph Samiri) protector when Thomas grew too demanding of his son. We saw just how much of a friend he was to Thomas when he tried to make his buddy’s dreams come true and pave the path for Thomas and Hope (Annika Noelle) to reunite.
Now, Vinny, in the afterlife, appears to be making Liam’s nightmares a reality! Time will tell if we continue to see Joe LoCicero in either fantasy scenes and/or newly created flashbacks that will explain how he came to be out on the road that fateful night! The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
