Aaron D. Spears has played “Dollar” Bill Spencer’s right-hand man for over a decade on The Bold and the Beautiful. If there was ever a question as to whether or not Justin resented his boss, well, wonder no more. For his portrayal of a desperate man wanting to take center stage from his domineering employer, Soap Hub bestows Performer of the Week for B&B honors on Spears.
The show decided to reveal that Justin is hoping to take Bill’s (Don Diamont) current predicament – he and son Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) are in jail for either killing Vinny Walker (Joe LoCicero) or lying about it — and turn it to his own advantage.
Justin, sitting in Bill’s chair, spun around brandishing a devious look on his face (with haunting music scoring the scene) and proved beyond any doubt that Bill and Liam had far more to worry about than the law.
Wyatt Spencer (Darin Brooks), naïve to Justin’s schemes, asked for an update on his father and brother’s legal status. “I can assure you that there’s a plan,” Justin informed Wyatt, playing the subtext that Justin’s “plan” is for him to take over Bill’s media empire.
After discovering that Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson) had proof that Vinny made the irrevocable decision to take his own life, framing Liam in the process, Justin knocked out Thomas, got him out of the Forrester Creations offices (somehow unseen!), and locked him in a cage in the basement of Spencer Publications, rendering Thomas incapable of providing evidence to exonerate the Spencer men.
Despite being Justin’s prisoner (and his playing a role in the death of Justin’s niece Emma, played by Nia Sioux!), Justin angrily told Thomas that keeping him captive wasn’t personal. Spears upped Justin’s level of fury as he explained how frustrating it was to help Bill build Spencer Publications over the last two decades only to watch his boss take all the glory.
Justin went on a rant, blasting Bill for not respecting him and making him feel that nothing he did was ever good enough for his boss. “I fixed every little mess that he made,” Justin raged. “I’m not his friend. I’m his fixer!” Spears heightened just how unbalanced Justin has become when he picked up what appeared to be a small acetylene torch, screaming out he wasn’t sure how he was going to deal with Thomas!
Thomas could have allied himself with Justin at any point in order to save his own skin, Liam and Bill going to jail would be a bonus. Instead, he continues to prove that he’s turned over a new leaf. He tried to convince Justin to let him go to the police, pointing out that he could get away from Bill if he stopped acting like him. But Justin wasn’t hearing any of that.
The story called for Justin to turn on the man who’s employed him for decades. Kudos to Aaron D. Spears for embracing the challenge and turning in a tour-de-force as a man who sees that serving “Dollar” Bill no longer makes any cents. The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS.
