Is Sheila right? Does Deacon only “love” Taylor for one reason?

Taylor and Deacon think it’s finally time for their love to blossom on The Bold and the Beautiful, but love might not be what’s keeping them together. Before she left her husband, Sheila told Deacon that legitimacy is at the heart of his relationship with the not-so-good doctor. Not the deep bond they keep telling everyone that they have. Is she right? Well, the end of Friday, April 10’s episode does a lot to support her claim.

Key Takeways

  • What Deacon said about his kids accepting his new relationship.
  • Why Sheila may have hit the mark about his romance with Taylor.
  • Speculation on whether love will be enough to sustain Taylor and Deacon.

Taylor Is the Good Woman Deacon’s Kids Want For Him

Deacon (Sean Kanan) has spent years defending his relationship with Sheila (Kimberlin Brown). Her past has been the reason their love has had little support. Over time, constantly having to justify your love for someone can take a toll. Deacon hit his limit when his faith in Sheila suffered a huge blow over Luna (Lisa Yamada).

In his anger, he pulled away from her and began to grow closer to Taylor (Rebecca Budig). Despite the inappropriate nature of their building bond, his kids were all for it, and that’s when something shifted for Deacon.

Hope (Annika Noelle) had never fully accepted Deacon and Sheila’s marriage. She attended the wedding and tried to be alright with it, but the minute his eye turned to Taylor, she was on board. Deke (Harrison Cone) responded in the same manner. Suddenly, Deacon could confide in his children about his feelings. They were open to listening to what he wants for his life without casting judgment about who he wants to spend it with. He didn’t have that before.

That’s a change that he acknowledged once the dust had settled with Sheila. He and Taylor were cuddled up on the couch mere hours after his wife had walked out the door. But what blew Deacon away was seeing his new lady love with his kids. He mentioned the way they had looked at him. How accepting they were. He registered how good it felt for his kids to want him with the woman he’s chosen. In other words, they legitimized his relationship by being happy about it rather than opposing it.

To Deke and Hope, Taylor is better than Sheila because she’s respected and isn’t an obsessive person with a long rap sheet. They see her as “good,” while Sheila is “bad,” completely ignoring the fact that their father has his own past. And it’s that past that has Taylor’s family wary of his involvement in her life.

Can Taylor and Deacon Stand the Test of Time?

Now that Sheila is gone (for now!), Deacon and Taylor’s romance will be tested by reality. They have had an endless supply of platitudes for one another. Deacon has declared Taylor the love of his life. But that’s all well and good up until you have to contend with the everyday.

The truth is, while Deke and Hope think the two are a good match, that doesn’t mean other people will. So this legitimacy that Deacon has found may not last long. Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) is questioning whether the restaurateur is the best person for her mother. Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) is wrestling with that question as well.

Taylor and Deacon cast Sheila as the sole figure keeping them from happiness, but that’s never been the case. Deacon’s now the Sheila in his relationship. While this may play out differently for him, it still stands that he’s neither the first nor the last option Taylor’s family would have chosen for her. He wouldn’t have even been on the list.

If those two are put under the same amount of pressure as Deacon and Sheila, they may show the strength of their bond. But it’s highly likely they could break under it. Deke and Hope praised them for putting their lives on the line to be together. However, Taylor was the one in imminent danger, not Deacon.

Deacon has already proven that when push comes to shove, he’s going to choose himself. It’s who he is. And if legitimacy truly does sit at the heart of their relationship, having to constantly prove himself may just sour Deacon on the idea of forever with Taylor.
