Romy Park has wowed fans with her performance as Poppy on The Bold and the Beautiful. Being on a soap opera, Park has to do a lot of crying. Something she learned firsthand during her audition.
Emotional Tryout
When Park joined B&B in 2023, little did she know that her character would be involved in a major storyline. Poppy’s secretiveness over her daughter Luna’s (Lisa Yamada) paternity led to heartbreaking consequences. Poppy’s lies turned Luna into a murderer, and has shattered the Nozawa/Finnegan families. Throughout the storyline Park has shed many tears as her character deals with the ramifications of her actions.
Park got a taste of what was ahead for Poppy during her audition. In an interview with The Locher Room, the actress recalled her reading with onscreen daughter Yamada, which left Park in tears. “I was bawling because Lisa and I connected,” Park explained. “Casey [Kasprzyk, the show’s supervising producer] had to go and grab me tissues cause my nose was running.”
While most actresses would be embarrassed, not Park. Everyone at B&B made her feel comfortable during the audition process. “I don’t feel like intimidated. I can just be myself with this group,” she explained.
Fast Fame
Park was in for another surprise when she was offered the role of Poppy. “I got hired the same day. My agent said, ‘That was quick.’ I was actually dumbfounded because when you’re used to hearing no, a yes can be a wonderful surprise. I forgot everything. I couldn’t remember my own name at that point.”
Poppy will have many more emotional scenes now that her and Finn’s (Tanner Novlan) past affair is revealed. Now that everyone knows that Finn is Luna’s father, everyone is going to be confronting Poppy. Between her confrontation with Li (Naomi Matsuda), Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), and eventually Luna; Poppy’s going to be shedding many tears.
