The Bold and the Beautiful (BB), which debuted on March 23, 1987, turned 30 years old!
In honor of that milestone, Soap Hub, reached out to actors from the half-hour show’s rich history and asked them to share some memories.
Here are recollections from Maitland Ward, Brent Jasmer, and Dylan Neal, who steamed up the screen in the mid-90s as, respectively, Jessica, Sly, and Dylan!
Maitland Ward (ex-Jessica)
“I’ll always remember knowing that I was so lucky to have been such in a solid family environment at B&B. That’s not always the case in Hollywood and on sets, so I’m thankful for that.
Brad [Bell, executive producer/head writer] was so excited to write in my violin playing, which was on my resumé – but only if I played songs like ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb!’
Needless to say, they had to dub in a ‘non-screechy’ version. Jessica’s musical talent was dropped from future scripts! Brad will still joke about that with me.
The hammock scene I did with Brent [Jasmer] will go down as one of the most difficult scenes to tape. Do you know how hard it is to stay in a hammock while trying to play a love scene?
While Sly was trying to ‘sex me up,’ Brent was trying to hold us down with his leg so we wouldn’t flip and fly into the Bikini Bar! We forged our friendship there and then.” (Today, Ward can be seen delving into the super-hero genre in the trailer for All Time Comics.)
Brent Jasmer (ex-Sly)
“Being on B&B was one of the greatest times for me personally as well as professionally. I had the privilege of coming to work each week with some of the coolest and most creative people I’ve known, from Bill, Lee and Brad [Bell] right on down to the cast and crew.
It definitely felt like a family — a big, crazy, awesome family! Maitland Ward (ex-Jessica) and I are still close. A few years ago, we drove out to Palm Springs to see Bobbie (Eakes, ex-Macy) perform, and we still get together for ‘sushi nights!’”
Dylan Neal (ex-Dylan)
“Congrats to everyone at B&B! Brad [Bell] and his parents were so kind to me. I still remember the day I got the part – April 8, 1994! It was such a great opportunity and allowed…continue reading on the next page —>
Dylan Neal (ex-Dylan)
“Congrats to everyone at B&B! Brad [Bell] and his parents were so kind to me. I still remember the day I got the part – April 8, 1994! It was such a great opportunity and allowed me to get my Green Card because I’m from Canada.
I remember the producers asking me if I’d mind if the show used my real name as my character name. I said, ‘Sure!’ even though I remember at the time four other soaps having a character named ‘Dylan!’
I’m still very close with John McCook (Eric) and his family.”
Today, Neal stars in and produces the Gourmet Detective series of movies for Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
