A reunion between Carter and Zoe may not be happening after all on The Bold and the Beautiful. If the estranged duo does reunite, viewers might be seeing a different actress playing Zoe in light of recent news involving Kiara Barnes.
“Soooo…the cat is officially out of the bag!” Barnes posted on Instagram, referring to a Deadline story announcing a new role she’ll be playing. “I’m so excited to be joining the cast for Fantasy Island on FOX!!! I’m so grateful for everyone who made this possible. Dreams really do come true. Continue to believe, and you will receive. Cheers to a new adventure!”
The original Fantasy Island ran on ABC from 1977 to 1984. The show starred Ricardo Montoblan as the enigmatic Mr. Roarke and Hervé Villechaize as his right hand Tattoo.
In the new version, Barnes is set to play Ruby Okoro, a woman described as “wise and warm.” She’ll arrive on Fantasy Island facing a terminal illness, but Elena Roarke, a direct descendant of the original Mr. Roarke, and the island will give her a new lease on life.
No official word from BB on Barnes‘ reported exit, but the Deadline story says she “is finishing her last year” on BB and she “will be wrapping production on the soap soon.”
Actors do juggle daytime roles with primetime parts such as when The Young and the Restless’ Hunter King played both Summer on YR and Clementine on Life in Pieces. However, her sitcom was an ensemble show and both programs were on the same network. In Barnes’ case, she’s part of a much smaller cast and the shows are on different networks.
Like the original Fantasy Island, the new version will have main characters and guests who pop in for each episode. In addition to Barnes, John Gabriel Rodriguez will recur heavily as Javier, described as “rugged, handsome and charismatic.” He is the island’s head of transport and acts as pilot, mechanic, and jack of all trades.
