Fun Facts About Obba Babatundé

Brand-new “Bold and the Beautiful” star Obba Babatundé won his very first Daytime Emmy yesterday when he took home the trophy for Outstanding Guest Performance for his role as Julius Avant.

To celebrate Babatundé’s accomplishment, get to know him better with these five fun facts.

5. His Secret Talent
Babatundé is fluent in American Sign Language. This form of communication has come in handy over the years, including when he appeared on the show “NCIS”.

4. More Than Just an Actor
Babatundé has produced six projects, including the 2015 thriller “If I Tell You, I Have to Kill You” and “The American Bad Boy,” which he also directed. On top of that, he’s appeared on two soundtracks, writing five of his own songs, including “Clarissa’s Gift.”

3. He Got His Start on Soaps
One of Babatundé’s first role was as Rusty Bennett on “All My Children” in 1987. Since then, he’s also appeared on “Dawson’s Creek” as Principal Greem, “Any Day Now” as Judge Richards, “One Life to Live” as Clay, and “The Young and the Restless” as Carter Campbell.

2. Becoming Julius Avant
Last year, Babatundé created the role of Julius, a man struggling with learning his son was transgender woman. His role may have started a temporary one, but it’s blossomed into a recurring character who regularly draws in fans.

1. Nominations and Awards
In 1997, Babatundé was honored with a Primetime Emmy nomination for Oustanding Supporting Actor for the part of Willie Johnson in “Miss Evers’ Boys.” That same role also garnered him a CableACE Award. Babatundé also snagged an NAACP Image and Black Reel Award nominations for his role in “Introducing Dorothy Dandridge. His very first win came this year with his Daytime Emmy.
