Sheila Carter killing her son John “Finn” Finnegan has caused her to nearly literally go over the edge on The Bold and the Beautiful. For playing a mother who has committed the ultimate sin, Soap Hub bestows Performer of the Week for B&B honors on Kimberlin Brown, Sheila’s portrayer.
Much of the fun of watching Kimberlin Brown over the years has been seeing Sheila take subtle glee over her actions and the things she says. However, Sheila’s not taking any joy now. She overreacted during her confrontation with Steffy Forrester Finnegan (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) in the alley and Sheila’s son Finn (Tanner Novlan) paid the ultimate price. While Finn’s beyond pain, Sheila’s has just begun and Brown is taking viewers through every agonizing moment.
Sheila is staying close to the hospital hoping to control the outcome of the situation should Steffy start recalling the specifics of the shooting. Unlike the Forresters and Li Finnegan (Naomi Matsuda), who can comfort each other, Sheila has no one. Kimberlin Brown’s Sheila also had to hide her guilt when Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson) asked her if she were responsible for the shooting.
It all became too much for Sheila. She went to the hospital rooftop and opened her heart up. “I just wanted to be loved,” Sheila said. “Why couldn’t Steffy just give me a chance?” Sheila acknowledged that she’d done horrible things while she’s been on planet earth but taking her own son’s life? “I can’t go on with you,” a despondent Sheila said as she stood on the ledge of the roof. “I’m coming, Finn. I’m coming.” In all the years Kimberlin Brown has played Sheila, we can’t recall ever seeing the character be so despondent.
In a series of emotional and highly charged scenes, Taylor Hayes (Krista Allen) tried to keep Sheila from killing herself and then, nearly lost her own life after tumbling over the side. Ironically, Sheila saved Taylor by helping her get back to solid footing. While this act can’t go unnoticed, Sheila is still wracked with both grief and a sense of panic as she simultaneously mourns the loss of her son and fears for her freedom should the truth come out. Kudos to Kimberlin Brown for making Sheila as sympathetic as possible given these tragic circumstances.
