The Bold and The Beautiful’s Finn Finnegan appears to have it all: A prestigious career, a beautiful wife, and an adorable son. He carries himself with the confidence of a man who can save someone’s life and reveal a perfect pair of six-pack abs at the beach. But deep down, does Finn feel as perfect as he appears to be? Here, we put him on the couch to find out.
On the Couch: Finn Finnegan
Finn (Tanner Novlan) came to Los Angeles a little more than three years ago, saving Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) from opioid addiction — and eventually mending her heart. As any handsome young doctor on the soaps would be, he is caring and compassionate while still exuding a hefty dose of masculine charm. Finn was there for Steffy when Liam gave up on her. That puts him at the top of the totem pole.
But, don’t forget that Finn’s place in Steffy’s life is only recently re-solidified. Turning his back on Kelly at the beach to take a work phone call was more than a major no-no and a little shockingly careless for a doctor spending the day with his stepdaughter. Steffy forgave Finn and took him back. But, would this kind of lapse in judgment happen again?
My Doctor, My Hero
Finn came up with the experimental treatment to save Eric, positioning him as a hero doctor and earning major brownie points with Steffy. (Read more about that here.) However, when Eric was on the operating table, he started unexpectedly bleeding. It was Bridget (Ashley Jones), not Finn, who stopped the hemorrhaging and saved the day.
As everyone tries to think positively for Eric, Finn’s treatment may not be working as well as they hoped. Eric is being kept alive by a ventilator, which is exactly what he and his son, Ridge, didn’t want. Is this going to damage Finn’s belief in his own expertise?

Diagnose This
Behind his self-assured demeanor, Finn may well be suffering from imposter syndrome. Inside, he could feel inadequate and insecure in his abilities. Yes, the woman who raised him, Dr. Li Finnegan (Naomi Matsuda), is an accomplished doctor. But, knowing that his biological mother is Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) must leave some kind of negative imprint on Finn’s psyche.
We have also seen that Finn has complicated feelings towards his murderous mom and has to make a very concerted effort not to interact with her. Though he knows full well how dangerous she can be, Sheila was able to sneak her way back into Finn’s heart with a few calculated steps and heart emoji texts.
Like an addict, Finn must do all he can to keep his mother at bay, but the connection remains. Finn may need to do some extra work to process how he feels about Sheila being his real mother. And, he may need to seek ongoing psychological support to keep from relapsing into any kind of familial bond with her. What do you think? Let us know in the comments section below.
