Carter Walton, you beautiful, earnest, incredibly unlucky-in-love man…we need to talk. You’re engaged to Hope, and yes, she said yes — but let’s not pretend she didn’t say it while caught up in the drama of Liam’s “imminent” death. You were the backup plan. Again. And it’s not the first time you’ve found yourself holding a ring for someone whose heart isn’t truly yours on The Bold and the Beautiful.
Hope Said Yes…But Did She Mean It?
Hope (Annika Noelle) was two breaths away from crawling back into Liam’s (Scott Clifton) arms (and his bed) when she thought he was going to die. She practically poured her heart out to him, wished they could try again, and if Liam had said the word, she would’ve bolted right past Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor). But, then, oops — Liam was miraculously spared (well, not quite, but that’s a whole other story). All while she’s accepted the proposal with the same hand that was just reaching for her ex-husband’s.

Carter, it’s giving us déjà vu. Remember Quinn (Rena Sofer)? Remember Paris (Diamond White)? You’ve built a reputation as the guy women turn to when they’re not quite over someone else. That’s not love — that’s emotional convenience. And Hope, bless her indecisive heart, has always had one toe dipped in Liam’s pond. That’s not a fiancé, that’s a flight risk.
Hope’s Whiplash May Break Carter’s Heart
Hope has always been caught in a carousel of “which man today?” First Liam, then Thomas (Matthew Atkinson), now you — with a full emotional relapse over Liam in between. She doesn’t need a wedding dress; she needs therapy and time alone. Carter deserves someone who doesn’t flinch at commitment, who isn’t chasing ghosts, and who won’t run back to her ex the second life throws a curveball.

And, let’s not forget: Liam isn’t exactly sitting on the sidelines either. If he thinks there’s even a tiny chance to reel Hope back in, he’ll strike — and fast. If Hope hesitates now that Liam’s alive and well, Carter’s going to be left standing there like he was left before: suit pressed, vows ready, and nobody walking down the aisle.
This proposal felt rushed, reactive, and entirely emotional. When reality sets in, will Hope still want a life with Carter? Or will she start dreaming of a reunion with Liam, now that the whole “dying” part is off the table?
Carter, watch your heart. You’ve worked too hard to heal it just to hand it over to someone who still hasn’t figured out whose it belongs to.
