The Forrester family on The Bold and the Beautiful is about to get a shake-up when Thomas returns to Los Angeles in September. Matthew Atkinson is officially returning to the CBS soap opera.
Thomas Returns to L.A.
Soap Opera Digest confirmed the news, revealing that Atkinson will be back on screen in early September. His return marks another major chapter for Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) and Taylor’s (Rebecca Budig) only son.
Thomas was last seen in July 2024 when he and fiancée Paris Buckingham (Diamond White) left for France. His departure came after Hope (Annika Noelle) turned down multiple marriage proposals, prompting Thomas to end their relationship and take Douglas with him to Paris. When he briefly returned in June of that year, it was with the shocking news of his engagement to Paris.
No word yet on whether Thomas will return solo or bring Paris with him—but either way, his homecoming promises drama.
Hints From the Actor
Atkinson dropped a big clue about his return on Instagram yesterday, posting a video of himself playing cornhole outside what appeared to be B&B’s new Sunset Las Palmas Studios home. He captioned it, “Second time’s a charm,” sparking an outpouring of fan excitement in the comments.
Previously, Atkinson acknowledged the passionate fan reaction to Thomas’s storylines. He shared how viewers frequently asked when he’d be back and expressed their care for the character.
A Changed Landscape
A lot has shifted in Thomas’s absence. Hope is now engaged to Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor), and Ridge and Taylor are also engaged—although Ridge’s lingering feelings for Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) could derail those plans.
Meanwhile, Paris’s mother, Grace (Cassandra Creech), is facing serious legal trouble after a shocking scheme involving Liam (Scott Clifton) came to light.
Whether Thomas’s return will stir up trouble for Hope’s engagement or bring new challenges to the Forrester family remains to be seen, but his arrival guarantees sparks.
