CBS Soap News: A Trio of COVID-19 Cases Reported At Television City

The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless are back in production, but COVID-19 remains a reality for the CBS soap opera world. A new report in a trade publication says that three cases have broken out at Television City, where the two serials tape.

“Three staffers have come down with the virus at the studio formerly known as CBS Television City,” reports Variety. The production facility, now known as Television City, is (or has been) home to BB, YR, The Price is Right, The Late Late Show with James Corden, and Dancing With the Stars.

Reportedly, the outbreak was publicly announced on Wednesday by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Information was not released on which productions or shows were linked to the cases, and word has yet to come as to whether the three staffers were on-screen or off-screen talent.

BB resumed production in June and returned to the airwaves on July 20. General Hospital returned with new episodes starting August 3. YR followed, and got back on the air with new episodes on August 10. Days of our Lives has not had to halt airing of new episodes, as the show had several months already prepared. DAYS is expected to return to the studio on Tuesday, September 1.

Part of the new protocols includes limiting the number of personnel allowed on set at a time. There is also mandated testing and people are wearing protective gear. Actors only take their masks off long enough to tape their scenes.

CBS Television City opened on November 16, 1952. Over the decades, it has been home to legendary series like The Carol Burnett Show, The Red Skelton Show, Three’s Company, and All in the Family. Many game and reality competition series have taped at the facility over the years, including The Joker’s Wild, Win, Lose, or Draw, Card Sharks, America’s Got Talent, and American Idol. CBS sold the facility to Hackman Capital in 2018.
