The transgender storyline on “The Bold and the Beautiful” was the talk of the soap town for months. It was innovative, dynamic, and for some, highly controversial. However, it paid off in a big way!
B&B took home its fourth trophy at the Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Writing, and it’s all thanks to the brave acting by the cast members Karla Mosley (Maya) and Jacob Young (Rick), and their wonderful team of writers.
According to Soap Central, Executive Producer and Head Writer Bradley Bell made sure to let the world know that he stands by the show’s eye-opening transgender storyline, and the LGBTI community as a whole. In the Emmy press room, Bell spoke of how the story was all about love, acceptance, and letting people live their lives in a world that isn’t always open to new kinds of families.
“It’s a story about acceptance and love… and if you can find love in this world in any shape or form, it’s a good thing,” he told the press. “I think we spend too much time thinking about what’s right and what’s wrong and which bathroom to go in. It’s ridiculous! We need to just live the best life we can.”
Bell went on to make sure everyone knew that his father, the late William J. Bell, (who created “Young and the Restless” and later B&B as it’s sister show) would have loved the storyline just as much as he did. The older Bell always tried to keep up with current events and social awareness and the story was quite an honor to his memory.
