Hope, Beth, Liam The Bold and the Beautiful
For months on end, all we could do was listen to Flo’s guilt, Flo’s resolve that she would tell the truth, and then Flo never telling the truth as Hope and Liam mourned their little girl on The Bold and the Beautiful.
As the story progressed, more and more people got ensnared into Dr. Reese Buckingham’s (Wayne Brady) heinous gut move to get himself out of a gambling debt and his daughter out of danger.
As each person learned Hope (Annika Noelle) was mourning for nothing, they were horrified, but then decided for their own selfish reasons to do nothing about it.
Flo (Katrina Bowden) didn’t want to give up her new life and Wyatt (Darin Brooks), Shauna (Denise Richards) didn’t want Flo to give those things up, Zoe (Kiara Barnes) first didn’t tell because she felt bad for Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), who unwittingly ‘adopted’ Hope’s presumed dead baby. Xander (Adain Bradley) didn’t tell to protect Zoe.
Emma (Nia Sioux) was not having it so she was ready to tell but then crashed her car and Thomas watched her die as he stood there and did nothing.
And yes, perhaps Thomas’ (Matthew Atkinson) reason for not telling was the most selfish of all. He ‘loved’ Hope and wanted her for himself.
He also did horrific abusive things to his son to get Hope. From terrifying him with a fake ghost to threatening to abandon him if he ever told Hope the secret her learned that Beth was alive, Thomas proved what he had become.
After a while, the Baby Beth/Baby Phoebe drama became the only story on the soap and that is when it became a problem where we just NEEDED it to end already. Thankfully, the moment Liam placed Beth in Hope’s arms as Beth and not Phoebe, it made all of it worth it.
And isn’t that what soaps are all about? The drama, the tears, the investment in the story, and frustration, and then that cathartic emotional moment. Well done, The Bold and the Beautiful. Well done.
