All Four Daytime Soap Operas Are Winners in the Ratings Race

Usually, there is only one winner in a ratings race, but a careful look at the most recent Nielsen numbers for soap operas show that the folks at The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless all have something over which they can be happy!

Soap Opera Ratings Race

For the week ending Friday, July 31, BB came in first in households with a 1.55 rating. (BB has been back with new episodes since July 20.) Meanwhile, for the same period of time, DAYS came in first in the coveted Women 18-49 demographic with .33. But there are also the season averages, too. Thus far, GH, which returned with new episodes this week, is in the top spot with .54, the season having begun on September 23, 2019. We’ll see how new episodes rank in about a week.

Meanwhile, The Young and the Restless ranks first in households for the season with a 2.60. Of course, this season will go down in the history books as the year three out of the four soaps aired reruns for a few months. Days of our Lives was the only soap that continued to air originals as the other shows dipped into their vaults to keep programming on the air. YR is returning with new episodes starting Monday, August 10. This will be the first week since last spring that all four soaps air original content.

The Bold and the Beautiful is executive produced and written by Bradley Bell. At DAYS, Ken Corday serves as executive producer while Albert Alarr is co-executive producer and Ron Carlivati is head writer. Over at General Hospital, Frank Valentini serves as executive producer with Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor as head writers. Tony Morina is the executive producer on YR while the show’s head writer and co-executive producer is Josh Griffith.
