Viewers are enthusiastic about the pairing of Carter and Quinn on The Bold and the Beautiful. You take one well-intentioned but neglected wife and one cheated-on fiancé. Throw in a little mutual need and a lot of chemistry and presto! An affair is born!

This isn’t the first time BB has thrown together two unlikely people into an affair (or an inadvertent fling). Here are some other examples of unlikely lovers on the CBS soap opera.

Eric and Brooke: In the show’s early days, Ridge married Caroline (Joanna Johnson), leaving Ridge’s ex, Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang), out in the cold. Around this time, Eric (John McCook) had had enough of his wife Stephanie’s (Susan Flannery) machinations. A chance encounter led to a romance between Eric and Brooke. She became pregnant with this son (Rick). Eric and Brooke wed and divorced (twice); today, they remain good friends.

Brooke and Thorne: Brooke wasn’t always the winner in the Ridge Forrester Love Sweepstakes. At one point, he had chosen to spend his life with Taylor (Hunter Tylo). Brooke and Thorne (Winsor Harmon) began dating and, needless to say, Stephanie did not handle news of this union well. She drove to the Forrester cabin in Big Bear where Brooke was and nearly killed her! Thorne and Brooke’s wedding briefly brought her parents, Stephen (Robert Pine) and Beth (Nancy Burnett), and grandmother Helen (Lesley Woods) back to the show for some appearances.

Ridge and Ashley: BB wisely scooped up fan-favorite Eileen Davidson after she curiously exited her role as Ashley on The Young and the Restless. Ashley, a chemist, came to Los Angeles to develop a fragrance for Forrester and fell for Ridge. This didn’t sit well with Brooke, who understandably viewed the Abbott heiress as a rival. Ridge and Ash went so far as to get engaged, but the wedding never happened and Ashley returned to Genoa City.

Eric and Taylor: Eric had extricated himself from his wife, Sheila (Kimberlin Brown), and was ready for someone more stable. Enter his former daughter-in-law Taylor (Hunter Tylo), who was on the outs with Ridge. While Brooke had no problem entertaining a union with Stephanie’s ex, Taylor couldn’t bring herself to do the same especially as she knew that Steph was still in love with Eric. So, this is one union that never got off the ground, much to Eric’s dismay.

Brooke and…Oliver? Hope and then-beau Oliver (Zack Conroy) agreed to consummate their romance during her graduation party where all attendees were wearing masks. Oliver knew that he’d know which masked lady was his because Hope would be wearing a necklace that he’d given her. Oliver found who he thought was Hope at the festive celebration and they made love while masked.

A satisfied Oliver strutted back into the party only to find coming down the stairs…Hope! Had Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) swiped Hope’s necklace hoping to seduce Oliver? Nope. Brooke had donned her daughter’s jewelry and thought she was making love to not Oliver but Ridge! The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
