When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of BB’s week that was.
The Bold and the Beautiful: A Critic’s Week In Review
It’s so nice when characters ask the very same questions that the fans have been pondering about B&B…
How did Quinn (Rena Sofer) and Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) wind up sleeping together when she was supposedly Team Zoe (Kiara Barnes)?
What are the chances that Vinny (Joe LoCicero) would wind up colliding head-on with a car being driven by Liam (Scott Clifton), when there are millions of motorists motoring up and down the L.A. highways?
What was Vinny doing on that particular stretch of road, at that particular time?
…Ditto when characters point out the obvious:
What were Quinn and Shauna (Denise Richards) doing discussing the former’s affair in the office after hours?
Why is Paris (Diamond White) so gung ho to support Zoe, when Zoe treated her so terribly for so long?
And yes, the biggest mistake WAS Bill (Don Diamont) covering up an accident – not Liam fessing up to Hope (Annika Noelle), and yes Bill DOES fail his family, “over and over again.” Why does he bother?
Here are some more questions:
Why can’t Paris be a more calculating character? If there’s one thing that B&B is missing as of late, it’s a villainous female character – and barring that, a pot-stirring female. Long gone are the likes of Stephanie Forrester, Deveney Dixon, Sally Spectra, Sheila Carter, and Morgan DeWitt.
And you know what daytime has never had? A super-strong African American female character. Where’s the morning soaps answer to Cookie Lyon, or Veronica Harrington? Generations attempted to invoke the archetype with Doreen Jackson, but never quite succeeded. For a time it appeared that Maya Avant (Karla Mosley) would fit the bill, but she was quickly morphed into, at the worst, a feisty romantic heroine.
Having Paris be on par with schemer supreme Quinn would make for fantastic drama on The Bold and the Beautiful…but the show actually had Quinn begging, on her hands and knees, for mercy from Paris – a woman decades her junior and scripted to be pure as the driven snow.
The Quinn of yesteryear would have whooped that little girl into submission. Or killed her outright. Or, at the very least, blackmailed her over something. What has happened to our Quinn?!
And when did Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) become such a damn harpy? Once upon a time, the former Miss Logan was the kind of woman who mother’s warned their sons about – God knows Stephanie warned Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) and Thorne, and any other man within earshot – and now all she can find fit to do is stand around and yell at Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) for….being sad that his friend died? For confronting his dead friend’s killer? For reiterating Liam’s request? She sounded so ridiculous it was hard to determine what she was really mad about.
Further BB Musings
* To get to the heart of Justin’s (Aaron D. Spears) concern, is Wyatt (Darin Brooks) at all qualified to run the mammoth organization that is Spencer Publications? He’s great at public relations and he’s a “social media manager” but…are those skills enough?
* Did Liam really claim that he’s cheating on Hope with Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), wasn’t him? HA! Cheating on Hope – and Steffy – seems ingrained in that man’s DNA. The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
