A Critic’s Review of The Bold and the Beautiful: Justice Served?

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of BB’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: A Critic’s Week In Review

Well, the Poor Dead Vinny saga has finally been wrapped up (though neither good, nor properly), and the fallout from the Quarter affair reveal – which we begged for during our last column – finally arrived…and it was, to say the least, underwhelming.

Firstly, we’d love for someone to explain to us how Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) and Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) got off so lightly – especially Bill. Sure, there was proof positive that Vinny Walker (Joe LoCicero) intentionally stepped into the path of Bill’s vehicle; but both men stood around and did nothing while he died, and then Bill robbed the corpse, disposed of his takings, and he offloaded the offending motor to a sheik.

And despite all that, the only punishment either man received was a hefty fine and a suspension of their drivers’ licenses? Really?! Talk about a slap on the wrist.

Then, to make matters worse, we get no scenes featuring Liam kissing Thomas Forrester’s (Matthew Atkinson) feet and thanking him for providing the means of his salvation; we’re denied Bill and Katie Logan’s (Heather Tom) reunion; and Thomas didn’t even go and visit with his son, who’s been worried sick over his dad’s mysterious absence.

And we understand that a lot of ridiculous fates have befallen characters on The Bold and the Beautiful, but couldn’t they have at least pretended to care that Thomas had been imprisoned for days inside a utility cage? Brooke Logan Forrester (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) set around discussing the matter so offhandedly that one might have thought Thomas merely locked himself outside his house, forgetting the keys were still inside.

Let’s now turn our attention toward the “dramatic” aftermath of Eric (John McCook) and Quinn Fuller Forrester’s (Rena Sofer) vowel renewal ceremony. That much anticipated Quinn/Brooke confrontation fell flatter than a pancake, and we’re pretty sure it had a little something to do with Brooke’s blatant hypocrisy.

When she claimed that she was a good, loving woman and that she had been a good wife to Eric, Quinn should have shot back that Brooke’s loving extended to every male member of the Forrester family that she didn’t birth or raise, and the boyfriends of both of her daughters, and to Ridge Forrester (who isn’t really a Forrester, mind you) and his half brother Nick, and that her idea of being a “good wife” must have included sleeping with her stepson and getting pregnant – because that’s exactly what happened. #RememberBridget.

And then there’s the little matter of having Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor) and Quinn face Zoe Buckingham’s (Kiara Barnes) wrath OFFSCREEN. Really?! What exactly precluded the show from pre-taping an epic showdown between the trio before saying goodbye to a Fantasy Island-bound Barnes?

Oh, and where, oh where were the faceoffs between “best friends” Ridge and Carter and drinking buddies Eric and Shauna Fulton (Denise Richards)? And where is Donna Logan (Jennifer Gareis)? She spent all that time weeping over the might have beens with her honey bear, and now that he’s single and vulnerable, shouldn’t she be offering him a shoulder to cry on?

Further BB Critic’s Musings

* When Steffy told Finn (Tanner Novlan) that she wanted to talk to him about their baby’s name, who else thought the writing team had finally clocked the major Hayes faux pas?

* Are we to assume that the sword necklace Justin Barber (Aaron D. Spears) handed over to Ridge was the genuine copy Bill supposedly swapped for the new one Katie designed for him? Or, in a situation similar to #Hayesgate, did the writers make a boo-boo and forget that Ridge smashed Bill’s sword necklace to smithereens about three years ago? If the former is true, how long did Bill hold on to that thing, and why?

* Also, can someone please explain to Bill that one needs a license and a car to participate in a carpool? He may have a fleet of the latter, but he most certainly does not have the former.
