When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of BB’s week that was.
The true highlights this week were not so much the scenes featuring characters delivering shock and awe – such as Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor) finally admitting to a (sorta) packed house that he’d slept with Quinn Fuller Forrester (Rena Sofer) – but rather the sideways glances, rolled eyes, and exaggeratedly pulled faces put so prominently on display.
The looks exchanged between Quinn and Shauna Fulton (Denise Richards) while they milled around behind Eric Forrester (John McCook) – who was practically begging Carter to officiate the vow renewal that Quinn was so desperate for – were hilarious; not to mention the glare Shauna shot her bestie when Quinn swore up and down that she wasn’t at all interested in continuing her relationship with Carter.
While Donna Logan (Jennifer Gareis) was waxing poetic about her former marriage to Eric, sister Katie (Heather Tom) – though desperate to be kind – did raise an eyebrow as if to say, “giiiiiirl, that was about a decade ago…give it a rest!”
And what about those daggers that Justin Barber (Aaron D. Spears) was shooting Wyatt Spencer (Darin Brooks) every time the young man turned his back? So enjoyable for us fans.
One of the biggest missed opportunities was not keeping Brooke Logan Forrester (Katherine Kelly Lang) on camera when Eric uttered the lines, “I love Quinn, and hers for me is something I never doubted. I’ve never had any reason to doubt her love or commitment to me or our marriage.”
How Brooke kept from shouting out something like, “Have you forgotten the time she was playing tonsil hockey with my husband, the man you raised as a son,” we’ll never know.
The one Bold and the Beautiful thing that we could have lived without seeing, however, was whatever the heck was going down between John “Finn” Finnegan (Tanner Novlan) and Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood). The soap called it a water birth. Fans and commenters called it something much worse. It was weird, to say the least.
Weird, and derivate. Did anyone notice that it was a (much more inappropriately sexual) retread of the birthing plan Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) and Caroline Spencer the younger followed?
Both women chose to deliver in a tub of water, they shared the same midwife and VERY similar dress sense. Heck, the women even gave birth to sons whom they named in honor of their grandmothers…oh wait, no they didn’t. Sure, Caroline named her baby boy Douglas – after his paternal grandmother, Stephanie Douglas – but Steffy saw fit to name her baby boy after his paternal grandmother’s psychotic ex-husband.
Soap Hub’s very own Michael Maloney wrote in-depth about why the christening was a rare miss for the show which usually hits it out of the park with baby names, and if you missed it, we encourage you to give it a read – just click here.
* Speaking of baby Hayes, what are the chances that not one, NOT ONE, of Steffy’s family members would be on hand – or at least nearby – to share in the miracle? Would they really just leave her to attend a vow renewal ceremony? Is Eric even aware of the fact that his great-grandchild is on the way? Has anyone even called to tell Taylor?
And shouldn’t someone, anyone for that matter, think to call Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson) and tell him that his sister has gone into labor? Ridge was worried sick that his son missed a meeting at the office – did he even try and get in touch with him afterward?
