September marks another month of fun reading for our Soap Hub Book Club. Last week, we announced the fan-voted choice and were pleased to see you picked Soapsuds by Finola Hughes. So far, it’s been a joy to read.
Will we ever get tired of novels written by soap stars? NEVER. And Daytime Emmy winner Finola Hughes (General Hospital’s Anna Devane) is certainly taking us on a fun ride and showing off the scope of her creative talents. Soapsuds is sure to keep everyone who reads it entertained the whole way through.
We can’t wait to hear what you all think! Share your thoughts in the comments section below and read what others have to say about this wild-ride romance.
Passion, power, sex, betrayal, and seduction–it’s all in a day’s work.
Having escaped to Hollywood after catching her boyfriend in bed with her best friend, London stage actress Kate McPhee is offered a gig on the popular daytime television series Live for Tomorrow. As Devon Merrick–police detective, car crash victim, and love interest for at least two men–she knows all the secrets and sins pulsating in fictional Hope Canyon. But the real drama is off the set, where the soap is indeed slippery.
Readers’ Responses:
I expected this to be an ok effort at best but Ms. Hughes surprised me, pleasantly. This novel is a funny, realistic look at what soap acting is like. The main character is very relatable, and you find yourself, cheering for her, sympathizing with her, and laughing with her. It is filled with unforgettable characters and situations we’ve all been in at one time or another. I have enjoyed Ms. Hughes’ work on screen and am loving it in print. Bravo! – Amazon Reviewer
This book is so funny! I loved the book so much that I bought it on Audio CD also which is narrated by Finola Hughes. If you watch soaps, you will love this book. Even if you do not watch soaps you’ll love it because this book is well-written, light, engaging, and funny! – Amazon Reviewer
Finola Hughes portrays such serious characters on the soaps. However, she is so comical in this book! She has a clever sense of humor, which she uses to write an enchanting story. I recommend the audio version! – Amazon Reviewer
I thoroughly enjoyed this book as an audiobook. I started reading it as a paper book but found that I enjoyed it being read to me more. The narration was excellent. I could really see the possibility of the stories possibly being partly real. The behind-the-scenes in a soap opera was really interesting and fun. The main character Kate was quite funny and made me feel like I would be friends with her. – GoodReads Reviewer
Cute silly book to read, by soap actress Finola (Anna Devane GH) Hughes. Gives the reader a possible insight to the ins and outs of soap actors’ lives, albeit this is pure fiction. Read it because I’m a long-time GH fan and because COVID-19 has me burned out on conspiracy novels. Fun and mindless and silly with some LOL moments. – GoodReads Reviewer
Industry Praise:
“A wild ride through the outlandish universe of soap-opera starlets.” – Cosmopolitan
“It’s got sex! It’s got intrigue! It’s got hot women, hot men.” – Kelly Ripa in US Weekly, July 2005.
