Lily Brooks O’Briant has wowed viewers with her performance as Lucy on The Young and the Restless. Aside from being a talented actress, she’s also a singer and songwriter. When writing music, the star doesn’t have to look far for inspiration.
Since joining Y&R in January 2023, O’Briant has been front and center as Lucy. Whether she was dealing with Daniel (Michael Graziadei) and Heather’s (Vail Bloom) drama, teen angst, or tragedy. Lucy went through a lot.
Those storylines were beneficial to O’Briant’s songwriting. In an interview with Entertainment Paper, the star reveals how Lucy inspires her music.
“Playing Lucy has definitely influenced my music in ways I didn’t expect,” she said. “Lucy started off hurt and betrayed last year winter, which brought some of those emotions into my songwriting.”
The young star then explained how her two passions have intertwined.
”Acting and songwriting are both about storytelling and stepping into a character’s shoes has helped me understand how to convey emotions more deeply,” she revealed. “In acting, I’m portraying someone else’s story, but in music, I get to tell my own. Still, there’s this crossover where both crafts require vulnerability and connection. When I’m writing songs, I think about how I would feel in a scene or what emotions I need to tap into. Lucy’s journey has made me more thoughtful about how I express emotions, whether in a song or on-screen.”
O’Briant also gave a hint about what viewers can expect from Lucy’s current storyline.
”Viewers are still seeing Lucy’s story unfold. At the moment, she is pretty lost, hurt, angry, and lonely. You will have to keep watching, but there is a big twist to her story that will cause a lot of drama.”
Lucy’s currently going through a tough ordeal following Heather’s death. O’Briant has given a phenomenal performance with Lucy grieving her mother. And the star might use this step in Lucy’s journey for inspiration for her next song.
