Kelly Thiebaud isn’t coming back to General Hospital but the actress is going to reunite with her daytime pals at The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards in June. Soap Hub chatted with the actress about her 2023 nomination in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

Kelly Thiebaud: The Daytime Emmys Interview

Update: After this article posted, Soap Hub learned that The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony has been postponed due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike so, Thiebaud’s reunion with her GH pals may have to wait a while! Soap Hub will post updates on when the show will take place as they become available.

Soap Hub isn’t letting a little thing like Thiebaud living in England stop us from getting a reaction from her on her Daytime Emmy nomination. The actress won the statuette for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series last year and now, she’s nominated in the same category again. Thiebaud had plenty of storylines last year, but she opted to remain in the same category.

“I had a full year of work on GH and I thought I had some great material so I figured it was worth it to submit,” she says. “You never know unless you submit!” What did the actress put on her reel?

“Britt dealt with a lot towards the end as her illness got worse so I really highlighted connections she had with her mother [Dr. Liesl Obrecht, played by Kathleen Gati], moments of vulnerability with Austin [Roger Howarth] as he found out the truth about her Huntington’s, her struggles with dealing with the diagnosis, and her saying goodbye to certain people in her life,” Thiebaud shares. “I felt my reel showed a range of emotions.”

A Little Help From Her General Hospital Friends

Sounds like Thiebaud could have thrown her hat into the Outstanding Lead Actress category, but she stayed in Outstanding Supporting Actress. “I knew I didn’t have the right scenes for Lead, so I decided to stay in the Supporting category,” the actress says. “I also have never felt like I was a ‘Lead’ on GH. I guess I think of a Lead Actor as someone who is on almost every day and is really intertwined with most of the other characters. I never felt that that was me.”

Thiebaud reached out to her GH pals to help her put her clips together. “I picked all the scenes [for my reel] and tried to do it myself but ran into some issues, so, thankfully, at the last minute, GH agreed to help me put my reel together,” the grateful actress shares.

Whether she takes home a bookend on Daytime Emmy night or not, the London-based actress is still a winner as she’ll get to see her GH pals again. “Any time I get to come to the [United] States, it’s very exciting for me,” Thiebaud says. “I haven’t seen anyone from the show since I left last November so it will be a real treat.”

Kelly Thiebaud: Coming Attractions

The actress recurred earlier this TV season on Station 19 as Eva Vasquez, but she isn’t appearing anywhere on-screen right now. We can’t see that being the case for very long, however! “Currently, I am just getting set up in the United Kingdom workwise,” she says.

“I just received my work visa so now I am in the process of finding an agent, and I hopefully will be very busy for the rest of the year. I’m still auditioning for jobs in the States, but we are currently in a writers’ strike, so everything is at a standstill. I’m hoping my timing of coming to the U.K. and getting my work visa will be beneficial for me until the strike in the States gets resolved.”
