General Hospital’s recent 15,000th episode shined a spotlight on Genie Francis, who has played Laura Webber Collins since 1977. The show would not have been complete without the interaction between Laura and her half-brother Cyrus Renault. Soap Hub chatted with Cyrus’s portrayer, Jeff Kober, about his prison scene with Francis.

Jeff Kober Talks Cyrus and Laura

Laura visited Cyrus in prison to see if he was the person responsible for the editorial that called her performance as Mayor of Port Charles into question. The two powerhouse actors gave it their all and towards the end of the scene, Cyrus, who claims to have found religion while behind bars, rattled the glass window that separated the two siblings in an effort to make his point.

Did Kober, who won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Cyrus Renault last month, make the decision to strike the glass when the scene was being shot or during rehearsal/blocking? “I added [it] in rehearsal,” Kober recalls to Soap Hub. “I said, ‘I think I might want to hit the glass.'”

A Touch of Glass

The actor tried it to see how it would come off — only he realized he might have been using too much strength. “It was fake glass so it started to wobble,” Jeff Kober shares. “I had to act like I was hitting it hard but I still hit it harder than Genie may have expected.”

Laura was taken aback by Cyrus’s action; Kober praises Francis’s ability to go with the flow in their scenes together. “She goes with anything,” the actor says with a smile. “She rolls with it.” Cyrus likely has an agenda but the specifics of that agenda remain unknown. “He’s got things that he wants from [Laura] but [they’re not] of a romantic nature,” Kober offers. “That plays into [their interactions].”

Jeff Kober Thanks His Supporters

Might a parole board be swayed by Cyrus’s claims that he’s found religion and has presumably turned over a new leaf? Jeff Kober’s not sure but he appreciates all the fan support he’s received from GH viewers. “I hope they’re all writing letters,” he says, warmly.
