With soap production shut down since March, our favorite stars have been home like so many of us due to the coronavirus pandemic. General Hospital alum Dominic Zamprogna, who has been off the show for a while, has used this time to reflect about life — and he tells Soap Hub all about it in this exclusive chat.
Dominic Zamprogna Talks About Life
What have you learned about yourself these past few months at home?
Not to panic or worry unless there’s a reason to. And, to stay creative. And, to be present. Basically all the things I knew before but now they’re even more important. And, also, meditation helps a ton.
There’s stuff people say you need to do or don’t need to do, but, I just think there are good days and bad ones – and they’re under a microscope now. So listen to your body and don’t beat yourself up about not doing anything. Try not to feel depressed – tomorrow might be better.
First thing you’ll do the next time you walk on the General Hospital set?
If I walk on the GH set, I’d do what I would’ve done before this all happened. I’d say hello to my family and friends, and if it’s kosher – give out hugs.
What’s the last gift that you bought for yourself?
A decent microphone for recording stuff.
Favorite way to spend the weekend?
A mix of activities with family and friends – and good food. And, going to movies and sporting events – if they’re ever back on.
What TV show would fans be surprised Dominic Zamprogna never misses?
In the days of On Demand, you don’t really need to worry about missing anything. But Succession on HBO is great, and I can’t wait each week for a new one. Also, I’ve heard RuPaul’s Drag Race is awesome, so I think I gotta give that a go.
What other riveting television have you been watching?
The Last Dance, about the Bulls and Michael Jordan, was incredible.
Also, the Formula 1: Drive To Survive documentary series on Netflix has been great.
What is your favorite vacation spot?
The Caribbean.
Is there any place you’ve always wanted to visit but haven’t?
I’d love to get to Greece and Portugal.
What is your favorite sport?
My favorite sport to play is soccer. But I love to watch hockey.
What movie do you know all the words too?
Casino.
Three songs that you can’t go too long without hearing?
Papa Hobo by Paul Simon, Oh What a Good Thing We Had by Johnny Cash and June Carter and anything by Tool or the Beatles.
What’s your favorite summer activity?
When I was growing up, soccer season was always so much fun in the summer. But here in L.A., it’s all year round. So now, I’d say summertime for me is probably all about hiking with Prince, my dog.
Who is the last famous person you’ve met?
When I re-occurred on Tin Star, I got to work with Tim Roth, who’s on my top 10 of actors I’ve always wanted to work with. It was basically me trying to absorb everything he did and also me trying not to ask him about Reservoir Dogs and Hateful Eight.
What makes Dominic Zamprogna laugh (or who)?
My kids make me laugh. When they swear, or we make potty jokes together – that stuff never gets old.
Best advice your father ever gave you?
Know when to shut your mouth.
Favorite TV show when you were a kid?
The Dukes of Hazard and Knight Rider. Also, Rocket Robin Hood, a Canadian show I grew up watching.
How does your wife describe you to her new friends?
I assume she’s telling everyone that I’m the best, most loving, and supportive husband she’s ever had!
Favorite workout tip?
Just break a sweat every day. It really doesn’t matter how.
