Alicia Leigh Willis shocked General Hospital fans when Courtney showed up in dramatic fashion this week. Soap Hub asked her about her return to Port Charles and so much more.
Alicia Leigh Willis On General Hospital Return
What a shocker for General Hospital fans – were you surprised, too?
It was a total surprise that Courtney would come back to take her dad to the other side.
How different was it returning to the studio? Had you been to General Hospital since your last tape day?
I came back as a ghost a few years ago and it’s always so surreal to be back. This was my family for four years so it’s always emotional to see everyone. It was definitely different this time. Everyone has to wear masks, and I couldn’t hug anyone. That was hard!!
It was more difficult than just showing up on set knowing your lines?
I was super excited I got to see Steve [Burton; Jason] and Maurice [Benard; Sonny]. I can’t believe how long it’s been. It’s so nice to be able to catch up after all these years.
Were you aware that Sonny has mentioned Courtney from time to time?
I don’t have cable so I haven’t seen the show in years. It’s nice to know that they remember Courtney from time to time. That character was such a big part of my life back then.
Starring on The Bay has kept you in touch with the daytime community?
Being in The Bay has allowed me to reconnect with a lot of people I worked with in the past. Not only From General Hospital but from Another World [ex-Alli Fowler] as well. So amazing to take a trip down memory lane with my costars.
The Bay just shot their new season, and they also had strict COVID-19 guidelines?
They were very strict with the COVID situation. It definitely gives you peace of mind when the productions you work on take it seriously.
The Bay is celebrating their 10 year anniversary?
It’s so hard to believe The Bay has been on for 10 years. We have so many great memories from this show. I love everyone I work with over there!!
How have you held up during COVID-19 in general?
We’ve been doing okay during COVID times. I have so much respect for our teachers and all they do!! Homeschooling has been the biggest challenge.
Have you found any new hobbies or projects to work on during this time?
I’ve been spending a lot of time in the kitchen. I love to cook so that has been a good outlet.
What do you miss more — live sporting events or going to movie theaters?
I really miss going to the movies and concerts. That will be one of the first things we do.
Who is the last famous person you’ve met?
The most famous person I met with recently was Wolfgang Puck. I was having a meeting — I got to have a social distancing dinner with him at his restaurant. I love to cook so that was pretty cool!!!
What would your fans be surprised to know about you?
I love flying airplanes!! I’m close to getting my private pilot’s license. A lot of people think I’m crazy but it’s one of my favorite hobbies. My grandmother and grandfather were both pilots so it’s in my blood.
