Daytime fans have loved Jason Thompson since he first hit the scene in 2005 as General Hospital’s (GH) Dr. Patrick Drake. A devoted doctor, who’s not afraid to show his feelings, Patrick was a breath of fresh air in Port Charles, the mobster capital of the soap world.
He played the part for 10 years. After leaving the role, he soon popped on up The Young and the Restless (YR) where he plays Billy, the youngest sibling of the famous Abbott clan.
Soap Hub asked Jason Thompson‘s fans which role they prefer to see him in and on which show? Read on to see if you agree or disagree with the results.
Billy or Patrick
The character of Billy won (but not by much) with 50.4% of votes. The majority of viewers are liking his portrayal of Billy, a man who seduced Phyllis (Gina Tognoni), his half-brother’s ex-wife, and is a concerned dad to his kids, Johnny and Katie, and to stepson Reed.
Nearly half of you, 49.6%, voted for Patrick. Even though the multiple Emmy-nominee has been playing Billy for a year and a half, Patrick has made a lasting impact on soap fans for this number to be so high. Not surprisingly, GH chose not to recast the part.
General Hospital or The Young and The Restless
Soap Hub conducted another poll — on which soap would you like to see Thompson on — and, in this one, GH scored higher with 53.4% of your vote. This number is fairly close to the number of pro-Patrick votes that the actor received in the other poll.
However, Y&R didn’t score nearly as high as it did in that survey. Only 38.8% of you chose Y&R as the soap on which they want to see Thompson.
The remaining voters, 7.8% of you, opted to go with a third option, and that is they’d like to see Thompson appear on both soaps. Sure, there’s a bit of a precedent with this.
Eileen Davidson is reportedly doing double duty as both Y&R’s Ashley and a yet-to-be-announced role on Days of Our Lives (she’ll air later this year). Also, Wally Kurth plays two roles on daytime — GH’s Ned and DAYS’ Justin.
But it’s not likely Y&R and GH will work out a deal in which Thompson can do both, so fans who want their daily Thompson fix will need to continue watching Y&R!
