Social media can be both a blessing and a curse, both to your average citizens and celebrities, as well.
Some of your favorite soap stars have been learning that the hard way as of late, with hackings, online scams, and impersonations.
Former General Hospital (GH) star Ryan Paevey is the latest soap star to have someone impersonating him on social media.
On Monday afternoon, Paevey asked his followers to block an account that was using his name, picture, and an almost word-for-word copy of his brief biography. The giveaway on the fake account was the impersonator asking for “DMs only.” (DMs mean direct messages on Twitter.)
Another clue is that the fake account has only 40 followers as opposed to Paevey’s nearly 78K.
Two weeks ago, The Young and the Restless star Doug Davidson said his account was hacked after someone strongly criticized his soap late the night before.
Co-star Kristoff St. John had someone impersonating him asking for money in the name of his late son, Julian, while Daniel Goddard also found a fake account was asking for cash him his name.
Days of Our Lives star Stephen Nichols seems to have fallen victim to the same scam as St. John and Goddard.
So, while social media can bring fans and stars together in a way nothing else has ever done before, always look for a checkmark verifying a celebrities identity, as well as other clues an account may not belong to who you think it belongs to.
