In an ongoing legal drama saga, former The Young and the Restless actress Victoria Rowell has added Ken Corday and Days of Our Lives to her discrimination lawsuit.
The actress has been alleging in court that Y&R discriminated against her and other African-Americans when it wouldn’t hire her back as Drucilla Winters after she left the show of her own volition in 2007.
While a judge threw her initial suit out earlier this year, he did give her a second chance to amend and present her case. She then chose to include Days of Our Lives in the suit, claiming discrimination when she wasn’t chosen to audition for the role of Melinda Trask, a district attorney who appeared in a limited number of episodes.
Now, DAYS Executive Producer Ken Corday has filed his own motion disputing her claims, saying: “Plaintiff – who has years of daytime drama experience and her own fan base – was not the right actress to play Melinda Trask, a minor, one-note character who appeared in only 20 episodes of ‘DOOL.'”
The motion further states that Casting Director Marnie Saitta respects her African-American advocacy cause, but since the role didn’t have much depth, it wasn’t right for an established actress like Rowell.
Rowell’s suit also named Sony Pictures Television, but Sony filed a motion as well, claiming it is not a DAYS producer and did not make the casting decision.
