January 27 was designated by the United Nations General Assembly as International Holocaust Remembrance Day, and this year it also commemorates the 74th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz during World War II — and two soap stars paid tribute in their own way.
The day held a special significance for The Bold and the Beautiful actress Rena Sofer (Quinn; ex-Lois, General Hospital), who recently traveled overseas with her family to visit concentration camps. The actress dedicated three posts on Instagram to mark the day.
“Today is #holocaustremembranceday and I just recently visited @auschwitzmemorial . We had an amazing guide name Pawel who walked us through Auschwitz 1 and Auschwitz Birkenau. The first picture is the remnants of ashes from the 1.4 million people who were murdered just in Auschwitz alone.”
“The atrocities of the Holocaust are not the only human on human atrocities to have happened on this planet over time and we, as humans living on this planet, are the only ones who can stop it from ever happening again. We must #neverforget”
For Days of Our Lives star Paul Telfer (Xander), it was a chance to remember the contribution his grandfather made during World War II. The actor shared the following tribute to his followers on Twitter.
“My grandpa Jimmy landed on D Day with the minesweepers. He survived that only to be sent to clean up Belsen concentration camp – something he never discussed and never recovered from mentally or spiritually. Never forget the inhuman atrocities of fascism. #HolocaustMemorialDay”
