Top 4 Favorite Soap Opera Hard-Luck Heroines

Published by

To be a true soap opera heroine, it means you have usually overcome a huge obstacle – or maybe 10 of them – and gain empathy and compassion from the viewing audience.

Take Guiding Light’s Reva or Holly, Santa Barbara’s Eden, Another World’s Rachel, As The World Turns’ Kim or even Lily, All My Children’s Erica or Brooke, or One Life to Live’s Viki as prime examples over the years of the quintessential woman who has been through it all.

These current four heroines are no different and have all managed to come out on the other side of danger or trouble only to face it again. And again. And again.

During that time, they’ve grabbed our hearts as we root for them to rise to the top once again.

The Ex-Stripper
No one screams, “I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar” like Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) on The Young and the Restless (YR).

She’s survived a cult, countless kidnappings, terminal disease, alcoholism, and is battling MS – never mind Victor!

She’s seen and done it all. Through it all, she’s earned not just our love and admiration but also our respect. She’s still got demons to battle (and an addiction to Victor), but we love watching her survive and prosper.

The Therapist
Maybe people trust Marlena (Deidre Hall) on Days of Our Lives (DOOL) because they know the troubles she’s seen. Who else can share tales of being kidnapped and tortured by a devilish man and literally being possessed by the devil himself?

From Heroine to Grandma
Laura (Genie Francis) on General Hospital (GH) has grown from troubled teen to wise grandmother. She was thought dead (a couple of times), helped save the world from being frozen, leapt out of planes, raised a family, lost her mind and returned stronger than ever.

The Fashionista
Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) has also lost her mind on The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) – and we don’t mean just having to choose between two men. Again and again. Yet, she’s emerged from countless perilous situations to now be a powerhouse in her own right.
