While it’s not the six degrees of Kevin Bacon, the amazing and beautiful soap star Rebecca Budig (Hayden, GH) has a huge variety of soapy daytime connections!
The General Hospital actress has sudsy degrees of connection in one way or another to each of the four remaining daytime soaps! She began her daytime career as Michelle on Guiding Light. After a three-year stint, she joined All My Children as Greenlee Smythe, and this is where a lot of her soapy links come in.
The Young and the Restless
According to Soap Opera Digest, after AMC went off the air, Y&R attempted to lure Budig to the show unsuccessfully. She moved to NYC, making a new plum role on the hit CBS daytime drama impossible.
However, her former AMC castmates Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea, Y&R; Annie, AMC), Elizabeth Hendrickson (Chloe, Y&R; ex-Frankie/Maggie, AMC), and Billy Miller (ex-Billy, Y&R; Richie Novack, AMC) all have had major roles on The Young and the Restless. In fact, now Miller is Budig’s co-star on General Hospital where he portrays Jason.
The Bold and the Beautiful
As for The Bold and the Beautiful, Budig’s former AMC castmate Thorsten Kaye (Ridge) is on the show. On AMC, Kaye portrayed Zach Slater who was married to Greenlee’s best friend/frenemy Kendall Hart (Alisha Minshew). Kaye and Budig always had a special relationship onscreen and appear to have at least somewhat kept on touch off screen too.
Additionally, B&B actor Jacob Young (Rick; ex-JR, AMC) and Budig co-starred together in Pine Valley.
Days of Our Lives
For her DAYS connection, Budig co-starred in the past with Vincent Irizarry (Deimos; ex-David Hayward, AMC). While these two missed co-starring together on Guiding Light by a couple of years, they worked together plenty in Pine Valley.
David was Greenlee’s brother-in-law through her late husband Leo (Josh Duhamel) and despite the fact that he was quite the villain in PV, he was always incredibly protective of his late brother’s wife.
Is there a possibility Irizarry could reprise his role as David Hayward in Port Charles in an effort to help save his ex-wife and the mother of his late child, Anna Devane (Finola Hughes)? If so, Budig and Irizarry may share the small screen again.
General Hospital
Although at one time Budig believed she was through with daytime due to her relocation to NYC, eventually she and her husband Michael Benson returned to LA. Longtime friend Frank Valentini, GH’s executive producer, lured her to the world of Port Charles, and once again, she found herself in daytime surrounded by plenty of her former co-stars.
Obviously, this isn’t an exhaustive list of Budig’s sudsy degrees of connection to today’s remaining soaps. Can you think of others? If so, let us know! We’d love to hear the ones you remember.
