Eileen Davidson is doing double-duty in more ways than one! She’s reprising her role as Susan Banks on Days of Our Lives while also playing Ashley Abbott on The Young and The Restless.
How is she able to do both? And how did her return to Salem come about? In the November 13 issue of Soap Opera Digest Davidson reveals that coming back to DAYS began with a phone call that she made to the show.
Great Minds
The Emmy-winning Davidson says she called DAYS casting to see if the casting director would be willing to read her stepson, Duke, who’s been studying acting.
According to Digest, the casting director revealed to Davidson that the show was just talking about her hoping that she could return to DAYS, but they knows she’s under contract at Y&R.
Rainy DAYS And Mondays
Davidson pointed out to DAYS that since Y&R is dark on Mondays, she’d be available to shoot scenes that day. “After that,” Davidson says, “a week or two went by and I got a call that they wanted me to start.”
What To Expect
Davidson refuses to give much away about story, but she says DAYS scribe Ron Carlivati was very open to hearing what she had to say. “He knew that I understood Susan very well. So it was very much a collaboration.”
Restless Style
The good news for Y&R fans (but perhaps not so great news for DAYS viewers) is that Davidson’s return to Salem, for now at least, is set to be brief.
“I’m always open to anything,” the actress says regarding reprising her role(s) again on the NBC soap. “Why wouldn’t I be?”
