If couples don’t break up, they can’t make up. Even so, sometimes, soap breakups rip our hearts out, which is part of what makes daytime drama so addicting to watch day after day, year after year.
While there have been countless couples united and divided through the long history of soaps, each show recently featured some incredibly sad breakups and divorces.
(Un)Welcome Back From The Dead
When he first returned to Port Charles, Sam (Kelly Monaco) didn’t quite give Jason (Steve Burton) the welcome home many General Hospital (GH) fans hoped to see. In fact, she doubled down and held onto Drew (Billy Miller) fiercely.
When she and Jason found out that they were still legally married, their division of property and divorce brought tears to our eyes.
While things appear to be turning around for this couple right now, that will likely bring yet another gutwrenching separation.
Goodbye Red
On The Young and the Restless (YR) the demise of Jack (Peter Bergman) and Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) came after a long, terrible story featuring Victor (Eric Braeden) bringing a Jack look-alike to Genoa City and tricking her into believing he was Jack.
Ultimately, her sneaking around with Jack’s brother Billy (Jason Thompson) caused many fans to seriously dislike Phyllis, but Jack’s pain leading to their final goodbye still brought plenty of tears and thoughts of what might have been if Victor didn’t get in their way.
Until recently, many fans still held out hope for these two, but now that it seems nearly all hope is lost, perhaps that means now a reunion could come…
Another Goodbye Red
Right now, Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) lies in a hospital bed, shot by one of his many enemies.
One of his terrible recent deeds was convincing Caroline (Linsey Godfrey) to lie to Thomas (Pierson Fode) about a life-ending illness. Ultimately, Thomas broke up with Sally (Courtney Hope) to leave LA with the mother of his child to help care for her in what he believed were the final months of her life.
Now, he’s learned it was all a lie, and he’s back hoping to win back Sally’s heart.
A Cold Goodbye
After a hot romance, it appeared Brady (Eric Martsolf) and Theresa (Jen Lilley) would live happily ever after. Unfortunately, she chose to use herself as bait to take down an ex and left Salem with nothing but a cold goodbye to a broken-hearted Brady.
Her goodbye left fans in tears, but soon, she’ll return. However, sShe may be shocked to find that Brady and Eve (Kassie DePaiva) are together (if things work out there) when she gets home.
