In 1981, there were two BIG weddings that captured the world’s attention: One was Luke Spencer and Laura Webber Baldwin’s that aired on General Hospital on November 16th and 17th, and the other was Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer that took place in real life on July 29th.
Give Charles and Diana’s popularity, GH producers inserted footage of the royal wedding into an episode of the top-rated soap.
Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura (Genie Francis) watched the real-life wedding as they sailed incognito to Cassadine Island to help bring down Mikkos Cassadine.
As viewers recall, Luke and Laura with the help of Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) stopped Mikkos from freezing the world!
In 1985, Days of Our Lives even had British royalty throw Bo and Hope their wedding in London and the soap traveled there on location.
There’s also another GH connection to the current upcoming royal wedding of Charles and the late Diana’s second son, Prince Harry, to Meghan Markle.
It turns out that Markle’s father is Tommy Markle, who has worked at GH as a lighting director!
According to Markle’s LinkedIn page, he worked as at GH from September, 1981 to January, 2013.
Meghan Markle got her acting start on Jill on GH in 2002.
While Grahn’s tweet states that Markle will walk his daughter down the aisle at the upcoming ceremony on Saturday, May 19 at 12 noon (B.S.T. – which stands for Bristish Summer Time – so you’ll have to get up early if you want to see this event live), numerous reports indicate that that won’t be happening.
The news that Markle will not be attending his daughter’s wedding came out after reports surfaced, inlcuding one from People.com, that Markle had taken part in a scheme to release photos of the happy couple.
Markle maintaind he arranged to have photos taken as he did not care for the coverage of him in certain publications that showed him buying beer. He has said the beer was not for him.
