Traditionally, the National Academy Of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) releases the acting reels of Daytime Emmy nominees so that soap fans can view the submissions on YouTube and other platforms. This year, however, there’s been a change in that policy.
“In consideration of requests for confidentiality, consistency, fairness, and respect to all parties submitting materials for the 2019 Daytime Emmy(R) Awards, NATAS will not be supplying reels this year,” a rep for NATAS tells Soap Hub.
Last year, NATAS came under fire after submission irregularities were brought to light in a Variety story that revealed Patrika Darbo (Mickey, The Bay) had been improperly submitted in the Guest Performer category in a Daytime Digital Drama Series.
As a result, Darbo, who has a Primetime Emmy, had her Daytime Emmy revoked.
The entire controversy prompted the four daytime dramas to threaten to boycott the Emmys this year unless some changes were made to the nomination and voting rules. A whole new set of rules was soon developed.
A list of this year’s nominees can be found here. The 46th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be handed out on Sunday, May 5 at 8 p.m. ET on digital platforms including YouTube.com, Twitter, and Facebook.
